About Project |
Dalit Welfare Organisation District branch office Bardiya implemented Building local democracy programme in partnership with Action Aid Nepal in Bardiya district, mid western region in Nepal. The program was initially supported by MS Nepal and latter Action Aid Nepal supported the project. The objective of the program was to improve the access to states resource and opportunity of marginalized community such as Dalit, women, janajati, muslim, Madhesi and other minority groups through empowerment of those oppressed group in this area.
The program specially focuses on improving access of poor, oppressed group to local state mechanism. The program also particularly targeted to poor, marginalized group, women and youth (PMWY).
There were several activities being operated in the district. Similarly Women groups, different types of user groups, committees, political parties (sister organizations), clubs, VDC personnel, DDC office, community level leaders are also the project stakeholders. Similarly it also focuses on political representation from the communities of Dalit, women, poor, marginal and youths. The project is contributing and emphasised on Social and gender Inclusion, political participation from the target communities. Now more than 2000 of the Poor, Marginalized, women and youths (PMWYs) represented in different political parties, VDC level planning committees, Community forestry user groups, Drinking water and sanitation user groups, school management committees etc in the project VDCs is highly increased. It has helped to increased social and gender inclusion from PMWYs.
It has helped to common understanding among VDC Secretaries, DDC and local level Civil society to deliver the services and responsibility. Among the time to time VDC secretaries and DDC representatives' coordination meeting helped to sharing the government programme and strategy of deliver the social program for Poor, Marginal, Dalit, Women and youths from VDCs and DDC. VDC offices are feeling easy to involvement from the project. By the project has been formattedthe VDC level Dalit, Women, youths Networks. It has helped the VDC offices to deliver the social sector budget through the networks.

2. Accountable Local Government
3. Peace and Democracy as a way of life.
One of objective of this program is peace and democracy as a way of life/ Democratic civil society. It has helped to empower the poor and marginal community for getting the local government resources for their empowerment and social development. From the empowered communities are able to get the local government fund. Through the Poor and marginal group Network communities are able to received NPR 25 Lakh budget from 10 VDCs office. It is the most important output of the project. Now in 10 VDCs, 10 Networks and 25 Women groups are established. DWO conducted yearly based Public hearing and social audit. Networks and women groups are also play the role of mediation in the VDC level conflicts. Political parties, sister organizations, groups and Networks are also follow up the social audit in their organization. |
