DWO Kathmandu District Branch

Dalit Welfare Organization (DWO)'s central office is located in Kathmandu, capital city of Nepal. DWO established in 1994 is the largest Dalit human rights and development NGO, working to improve the overall condition of Dalit community so that they can live dignified and respectable life in the Society. DWO carry out national project as well provide project development, monitoring, capacity building and technical assistance to district branch office. It has outstanding strength in media advocacy and social mobilization and delivering development project with high level impact. It has worked and has been working with INGOs such as Action Aid, VSO, World Vision International, Practical Action, Lutheran World Federation, Care Nepal, UN agencies, Swiss Academy for Development, Save the Children, Plan Nepal International, United Mission to Nepal and Other NGO and Government Authorities. It has been carrying out lobbying and advocacy initiative to reform policy. It regularly hold critical debates with policy makers, media, Civil Society and government authorities on the issues of Dalit community. It has executive central committee elected through democratic process with the vote from general DWO districts and local members. Currently, DWO executive committee is led by advocate Chakraman Bishwakarma. There are total 19 members, over 40% are Dalit women.

Sandharva ra Awaaj Radio Program

Completed Advocacy To unite Dalit and Non-Dalit people in the fight against caste-based discrimination. This project is a continuation of previous years' radio projects.

Samman Ka Swar Haru - Voice of Dignity Radio Program

Ongoing Advocacy Increase awareness among Dalits and non-Dalits of Dalit issues and advocate to the policy level and decision making body of Nepal.

Increasing Dalit's Representation in Employment and the Constitutional Assembly

Completed Advocacy The program advocated and lobbied governance at all levels, political parties and non-government institutions to agree a common agenda and priority on Dalit proportional inclusion in mainstream development and decision making and policy implementation level. It is also designed to reach out to Dalits as well as governmental employers, NGOs and private sectors to facilitate cooperation and potential employment opportunities for Dalit candidates.

Dalit Women Empowerment Program

Completed Economic Empowerment To empower Dalit women socially and economically through raising awareness, increasing income, increasing freedom from gender and caste oppression. Ultimately the project sought to make Dalit women more self reliant.

Dalit Jana Jagaran Radio Program

Completed Advocacy Empower Dalit voices to speak and work for their rights and spread information to Dalits across Nepal.

Ongoing Advocacy To advocate rights of Dalit communities through publication of evidence based magazine
