Project title

Improving Food Security condition of socio-economically excluded Dalit communities in Far-western Nepal (Food Facility Project-FFP)

Purpose

The overall objective of the project was to augment food security and livelihood conditions of small land hold Dalit farmers at household level in order to mitigate the negative impact of the volatile food price in Far and mid western Nepal.

About Project

Food Facility Project known also as FFP was implemented by DWO Accham district in partnership with Dan Church Aid. The project aims to contribute to the MDG goal; ending poverty. Specific objectives: -Increased agricultural productivity of small land hold Dalit farmers through improved and diversified agriculture techniques and evidence based best practices. -Strengthen livelihood of the small Dalit farmers through livestock and agro-based support initiatives for increased income to mitigate negative effects of rising food prices. -Increased effectiveness of safety net programmes of govt. and International Organizations (IOs) in terms of increased access to food of vulnerable and landless Dalits communities Key Activities: -Orientation for stakeholders on food facility -strengthen with the basic furniture and stationery such as register, tin box, etc. -Orientation on food security and cooperative approach of farming - train on group dynamics and social mobilization ToT training by LWFN. -Orientation for leasehold farmers in leasehold farming approach - Facilitate lease holding contract for landless and shall landholders - train leader farmers diversified and modern farming practices on major crops. -Collaboration with DADO staffs -Inter group visit within the project area. -orientation in market management training including government staffs -Provide support such as plastic pond, drip set and poly pipe -Regularly hold District Project Coordination Committee, organized bimonthly meeting -Participate District food security monitoring and analysis Network -Train target group members on saving and credit, book keeping and fund management . -Develop linkage with village cooperatives are effective -Train project staffs and 2 board members and DADO/DLSO staffs on agro-based enterprises (SLF model) and staffs on micro-enterprise creation and development (MECD). -Train target group members on agro-based enterprises and Integrated Livestock Management. -community based livestock insurance schemes -train VAHWs (refresher) for the care and management of livestock -micro enterprises supports -Livestock support to Dalit farmers
