About Project

From April to December, 2014, with the support of Save the Children, DWO Bardiya conducted the Learning for a Better Future Project in 10 schools. The aim of the project is to ensure all children in the participating schools, particularly the most marginalized by caste, gender, and socioeconomic status, benefit from high-quality education through the introduction of soft skills. There were three specific objectives of the project: improve relevance of secondary education, enhance social protection schemes for poor families, and improve functional local education mechanisms. To improve the relevance of secondary education, project staff met with government education staff to increase access to resource provisions for children, conducted life skills trainings for children, and provided learning materials to support grade 6-8 students. To enhance support for marginalized families, teachers were trained on factors which improve enrollment rates, and attendance, teachers met with parents about students’ performance, and social audits were conducted to establish areas of greatest need in each community. Finally, endowment funds and educational support were provided to vulnerable children, and greater coordination facilitated between the District, and Village level to improve education quality.
