About Project

Continuing DWO’s legacy of using media advocacy to inform and educate the public about Dalit issues, Radio Pratibodha FM was started this year in the Banke District. The program is receiving support from DanChurch Aid, USC Canada Asia, Equal Access Nepal, District Development Committee, and the Nepali government. Information about many different topics concerning social issues are reaching marginalized as well as non-marginalized listeners which helps bridge divides created by social issues such as gender or caste discrimination. By normalizing the presence of these topics in local media, Dalit voices can be heard and social barriers between Dalits and non-Dalits can be broken down. The program reaches 300,000 people on a daily basis and has provided employment for Dalits and women. Radio Pratibodha has successfully established relationships with other radio programs to share knowledge and experiences as well as with local stakeholders to receive assistance with running the program.
